Sicily through time

Where each place is a world of its own

As a strategic point of the Mediterranean, Sicily’s culture was influenced by many ethnic groups throughout history, like the Greeks, the Romans, the Phoenicians, the Arabs, etc.. Each of them left its mark, whether in the architecture, the cuisine or the language.

Some of the influence can still be seen in the majestic buildings that survived for millennia, like the Greek and Roman theaters and the Greek temples.

Though essentially Villa Doris is a beach villa, it would be a shame for someone to spend its entire Sicilian holiday at the beach and not visiting the surroundings. Most of the nearby cities are recognized by UNESCO through its World Heritage Convention.

You could easily spend half a day in Siracusa, Noto, Scicli, Modica, Ragusa or Palazzolo Acreide, all of them being within a 70 km radius from Fontane Bianche, or book a tour with our partner Sicily Time to even more remote places like Taormina, Catania or Agrigento.

The Sicilian landscape

Great variety within a small range!

One of the only places where you can take a swim in the sea and go skiing in the same day, Sicily is a real treasure for nature lovers. Thanks to its climate and variety of landforms, activities like diving, hiking, rafting, skying or swimming in a mountain lake are all common for tourists and locals alike.

The nearby Plemmirio and  Cava Grande del Cassibile natural reserves, or the more distant Etna Natural Park are all all ideal for these activities.

The Sicilian cuisine

Just as unique as Sicily itself!

Although nowadays there are Sicilian restaurants all over the world, Sicily is the only place where you can actually taste the genuine Sicilian cuisine, thanks to the fresh ingredients used.

In Sicily, certain places are renown for the quality of their products, like Pachino for tomatoes, Bronte for pistachios, Avola for almonds, Cassibile for lemons, Cassaro for olives, Francofonte for the sanguinello oranges, and many more.

These fresh products, along with the fresh fish brought in daily by the fishermen helped create the tasty and healthy cuisine.

From arancini to cannoli, the Sicilian flavours will surely remain in your memory.
