The legend behind the name

The villa was named after the Greek oceanid Doris, daughter of Oceanus and Tethys.
The oceanids where sea deities, friendly with men, and to whom sailors prayed for calm waters. They were represented as beautiful and joyful maidens, who loved to dance, dive into the sea and ride dolphins and hippocamps.
For the Greeks, Doris was a source of well-being and plentifulness, goddess of the rich fishing-grounds found at the mouths of fresh rivers where water mingled with the brine.
